Gabriel Faure: Requiem (Chanteurs de Lyon and Trigintour Instrumental Lyonnais, E. Bourmauck, conducting, with Edouarde Commette, organist; Columbia: 10 sides). One of his profoundest works.  The genesis of the Requiem began in 1877 with the Libera me, developed into a full Mass in 1888 and twice revised in 1889 and 1900. The work was performed at the composer's own funeral and fourteen years later recorded by Columbia in France.
The recording presented here was recorded in the Cathedral of St. Jean in Lyons, France. The organist in residence, Edouard Commette (a student of Widor), is the organist in this recording.

THE PERFORMANCE IS BEAUTIFUL, THE SOUND IS EXCELLANT AND THE RECORDS ARE IN NEAR MINT (A TERM I HAVE NEVER USED IN A LISTING BEFORE) CONDITION.   THE SET IS NOT IN THE ORIGINAL COLUMBIA FOLDER AND THESE RECORDS ARE IN MANUAL PLAYING SEQUENCE.
