Description
ARTIST: Stump Johnson (with Baby Jay, cornet)
LABEL: Paramount 12906
TITLES: Transom Blues / Soaking Wet Blues
CONDITION: V / G+
DESCRIPTION:
Scarce Paramount by James "Stump" Johnson from November 1929 recorded in Richmond. "Transom Blues" features Baby Jay on cornet and a mandolin playing along with the melody, which is a hokum blues side originally titled "Bury That Thing". "Soaking Wet" is an excellent St. Louis piano blues side - there is no guitar. Music loud and clear with some break up in a few vocal notes and crackle that comes and goes on "Soaking Wet Blues". Light surface noise on "Transom Blues". Plays very well for the visuals.
