Description

Born in Vienna, Margeretha “Greta” Keller (1903-1977) was a cabaret singer and actress known for her sophisticated interpretations of songs by greats like Noel Coward, Cole Porter and, yes, Paul Anka.  She traveled back and forth between the continents appearing for long engagements at places like the Waldorf and Stanhope Hotels in New York City as well as cabarets and night clubs in other major cities.  Here, she sings in German “Lili Marlene” and “Das Alte Lied,” issued on Victor’s “International Series” probably from the late 1940s.  More wear on “Lili Marlene” than the opposite side.  Condition V+/V++

NOTE: I grade records by a rating system that has been standard in the industry for decades.  Still, it can be a subjective undertaking.  I am more likely to grade by how the record reproduces aurally (I use a 78 Shure cartridge with a 1950s Voice of Music turntable that has been fit into a 1946 Magnavox Belvedere radio-phonograph) than by how it looks visually.  Sometimes a record that appears substantially worn plays very well and sometimes the opposite is true.
