Description

78 rpm- Billie Holiday. a nice selection of Billie Holiday records on various labels, from various periods in her career. Billie was the premiere song stylist of the jazz/ swing era in the 1930s-40s-50s. She recorded under her own name and with bands as varied as Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Paul Whiteman, Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, etc. She set the style for jazz singing- an influence still felt today, and was influenced herself by the great Louis Armstrong

NOTES- Strange Fruit was controversial even in its time as the lyrics dealt with race relations and lynching. The side was too risky for Billie's home label to record, so she went to the independent Commodore and it became one of her signature tunes

They are play graded on a modern turntable using a new Stanton 2.7 mil stylus. I have been collecting, buying, selling, packing and shipping for decades so have experience in all of these aspects, so please feel free to bid with confidence!
