Description
Artist: Sax Kari was born in Chicago, the son of Tennessee-born Isaac Columbus Toombs and his wife Irene. As a child, he ran away from home and from the age of nine performed in vaudeville as a comic entertainer with Butterbeans and Susie, who gave him the nickname "Candy Yams" for his relatively light freckled complexion. He learned to play piano, guitar, and reed instruments, and by 1940 was living in Gary, Indiana, with his mother. He worked in bands as a guitarist, and in 1942 took Charlie Christian's place in the orchestra at the Lyon's Den club in Oklahoma City. He began working with and for club owner and entrepreneur Denver D. Ferguson in Indianapolis in the early 1940s, promoting concerts and helping Ferguson set up the network later known as the "Chitlin' Circuit". He formed his own eighteen-piece touring band, and settled in Detroit around 1945. He made his first recordings with his orchestra for Imperial Records in 1947.

Shipping: Each record is placed between several crisscrossed cardboard pads, taped tightly and wrapped in bubble wrap. This is then placed in a 14" X 14" X 6" cardboard box surrounded with packing peanuts.
I am glad to combine shipping for an additional cost of 50 cents each additional record up to 4 records. Just please let me know if you want combined shipping before you pay.
Grading: I use the VJM system to visually grade the condition of my 78 RPM records. I also play each record on a modern turntable with a conical shaped stylus to make sure there are no skips or jumps. Please note that, in this standard grading system, V+ is NOT considered as very, very good condition like you expect when compared to newer, less used, items you may have purchased. Please read carefully the grading system I use below in describing the condition of this item.
N As new and never played (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be never played).
N- Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.
E+ Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets.
E Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.
E- Still shiny but without the luster of a new record, few light scratches. Some wear, scratches and scuffs, but no skipped or repeat grooves.
V+ Is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced.
V Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
V- Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.
G+ Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.
G Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.
G- Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive.
F Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable.
P Unplayable.
