DESCRIPTION: Music Box is without doubt the rarest label when it comes to collecting 1920s jazz records from the United States. I don't know any collector who owns one after asking in the relevant groups in social media. Only one collector has spotted a Music Box record in the early 1970s in Philly, which was of no musical interest at all. This means that this record is probably not only the only existing copy but also the only record of this super rare label. The songs are popular tunes. Listen to my transfers.

 

INFORMATION ABOUT MYSELF: I’m an experienced 78rpm jazz collector based in Zurich, Switzerland. The records I am selling are no duplicates. Most of them are very clean copies because I usually don’t collect below E-.

Most of the records you can see here were used for my transfers on my YouTube channel Atticus Jazz. Of course, these transfers are remastered. However, they give you a pretty good idea about the records you are interested in.

78 GRADING:  I use the universally recognized VJM (Vintage Jazz Mart) 78 rpm system in grading my 78s.  

E+

Highest grade used. A record that might have minor handling marks but has no visible signs of wear.  N, N- and E+ records will all be graded as E+.

E
Record has slight signs of handling and use but groove wear should be barely detectable and grooves should still be glossy and black. 

E-
Light groove wear with grey rubbing and light circular gray grooves starting to appear, but record should still retain glossy black grooves for almost all of the surface.

V+
Grey wear, handling and groove wear more apparent, but much of the groove area will still have black.

V
Record is approaching an overall grey surface with uniform wear, but will still play well even though the level of surface noise and distortion could be distracting.

V-
Record has wear throughout, and was subject to continual playing to wring more sound out of it, so even the grey is in a more advanced state of deterioration with groove walls disappearing.
