Description
5 x 12" x 78rpm Zonophone "Gems" from Gilbert & Sullivan operas; plus a Columbia Masterworks Set M-440 of 3 x 10" Gilbert and Sullivan Patter songs.
We have played all of the 12" records, except A321, which is in excellent condition. The records have been played on an HMV Cabinet model with a steel needle. Apart from the usual initial 1/4" of heavier surface noise all of the records played very well, although there are a few scratches, most very light, none of these interfered with the sound reproduction. Some of these records are over 110 years old and these would have been acoustically recorded, not recorded electronically.
Record 1 Zonophone A 317 - Vocal Gems from "HMS Pinafore" - Zonophone Light opera co. Probably recorded July 1913, the record is in very good condition.
Record 2 Zonophone A 321 - Vocal Gems from "Yeomen of the Guard" - Zonophone Light Opera Co. - Probably recorded 1913. This record is in excellent condition.
Record 3 Zonophone A325 - Vocal Gems from "Gondoliers" - Zonophone Light Opera Co. Recorded 19th November 1927. The record is in very good condition
Record 4 Zonophone A 342 - Vocal Gems from "Rudigore" - Light Opera Company - Recorded October 1928. The record is in very good condition
Record 5 Zonophone A 360 - Gems from "Yeoman of the Guard" - National Symphony Orchestra - Probably recorded February 1912. The record is in very good condition.
The Columbia Masterworks Set M-440 comprises: 1 & 2 "Oh! A Private Buffoon/My object all sublime" - 3 & 4 "Lord Chancellor's Song//My name is John Wellington Wells" - 5 & 6 "I am a Monarch of the sea/When I was a Lad" - "Major General's Song". All sung by Nelson Eddy. These records are all in excellent condition.
** We have listed today a large number of Zonophone records, some well over 100 years old. We would be happy to hear from anyone who would like to combine lots, before making any purchases, or make offers for individual lots [minimum delivery £10] and we will combine postage dependent upon weight. Please note that the weight of some of these Zonophone records is 2 to 3 times heavier than a standard 10" shellac record.
