THESE ARE TWO EXTREMELY RARE CASSETTE TAPES – PROMOTION ONLY – IN MINT CONDITION.  Cassettes and paper work both say 'Not For Sale - This Compilation is for Promotional Purposes Only - 1988 compliation made by EMI Records Ltd.' (You can just read the 'not for sale' in the photo).

PLAYED THROUGH ONLY ONCE TO CHECK THEM.  NARRATED BY CLIFF RICHARD, THIS WAS FEATURED IN TWO ONE-HOUR SPECIALS, BROADCAST ON BBC RADIO ONE IN NOVEMBER 1988.  As these are tapes of a Radio One broadcast I don't believe they were ever released for purchase.

This is a superb history of ‘The House of Wax’ (EMI REOCRDS, MANCHESTER SQUARE)  a fascinating insight and of interest to all music fans, particularly with facts and music from The Beatles and The Shadows, Kate Bush, and of course, Cliff himself, not to mention all the other superb artists included in the story telling.

Cliff narrates the story of the Gramophone Company and EMI, which celebrated its 90th birthday in 1988.  Cliff also celebrated 30 years with EMI in 1988.

This is a delight to listen to – 2 full hours of Cliff narrating some very interesting facts and history about the record company he has, until recently, spent his life with.  Superb facts, music, chat with other artists and producers – but about 90% Cliff narrating – listen with headphones on and enjoy the full splendor of the experience.  A fascinating journey through the history of EMI and the music industry.

The programmes trace the history of the company from its beginnings in April 1989 at The Gramophone Company through to the very latest 1988 EMI releases.  Titled ‘The House of Wax’ a term used by George Harrison of the Beatles to describe EMI’s Manchester Square offices the programmes were broadcast on Saturday November 19th and Saturday November 26th 1988.

The first programme covers the company’s growth and development from 1898 up to the arrival of Mersey Beat and The Beatles in 1962 and part two highlights the company’s artists and music up to the present day (1988 when the tapes were made)  In addition to Cliff’s narration EMI artists Paul McCartney (The Beatles and Wings), Tina Turner, The Pet Shop Boys, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Kate Bush and Richard Marx, together with The Shadows’ Bruce Welsh, Ken Townsend and producers Mickie Most, Norman Smith, Wally Ridley and Pete Waterman also feature in the programmes.

The two programmes were written by EMI Music PR Director Brian Southall and produced by Independent producer Tony Hale for TH Productions.  EMI 1988.
