"A Play by Imamu Baraka (LeRoi Jones)"A Black Mass is a curious piece that was extremely limited when it was first released in 1968 on Leroi Jones' (Amiri Baraka) Jihad records. Recorded at Spirit House, Jones' house/theater in Newark, this live performance of Jones' dramatic piece dedicated to Malcolm X -- and to a lesser extent, the Nation of Islam -- would have originally only been found in black nationalist bookstores in a few cities.
Record features Carl Boissiere as Jacoub, Yusef Iman as Nasafi, Barry Wynn as Tanzil, Elaine Jones as Olabumi, Jaccqui Bugg as Eulalie, Sylvia Jones as Tilla, David Shakes as Beast, Bob Washington as the Narrator, and THE SUN RA MYTH-SCIENCE ARKESTRA.
Condition
Original 1968 LP in VG+ Condition, Sleeve is VG- with ex-library labeling and processing. Some minor edge wear and 1" seam split. Very collectible and very nice record in great condition overall! See photos
