“A Christmas Gift For You” (The Phil Spector Christmas Album) on an original American “PHILLES” pressing with the date of mastering 10/27/63 engraved in the vinyl around the label. PHLP 4005. Collectable, but NOT MINT.
Bid for it now and you’ll definitely get it BEFORE CHRISTMAS!! Makes an ideal gift for ANYONE, except for Roy Wood of Wizzard, who’s probably already heard it..
THIRTEEN TRACKS! TWELVE AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL CHUNKS OF SPECTOR PERFECTION plus one embarrassing effort when Phil himself recites a Christmas message over a sloshy backing track….not his finest moment.
This record IS NOT MINT but plays VERY WELL INDEED.
SIDE ONE is in clean collectable condition with the kind of tiny marks and imperfections that you’d expect from FIFTY YEARS of storage in a paper sleeve. SOUNDS GREAT!
SIDE TWO is in similar condition but has a MODERATELY LIGHT scratch across three tracks. It’s NOT a needle-dig, it’s probably a storage mark. This is INAUDIBLE on my gear (Shure Cartridge in a good arm, in mono) but I think it’s only fair to point it out to bidders, and stress that the disc ISN’T MINT but SOUNDS GREAT!
In my opinion the disc is probably more-or-less VG according to “Record Collector” magazine standards.
The disc shown in the photo is the actual one you’ll get.
THE SLEEVE is most definitely NOT MINT. It is CLEAN, with no writing or bits missing, but there is a REPAIR, quite discreetly done across the bottom left front. I’ve done a close-up photo of the repair for you.
The top and bottom edges had split, and they’ve been cleanly repaired with “Invisible Tape”. The spine is scruffy but intact and un-repaired. The two spine corners are also unkempt.
In my opinion the sleeve would be more-or-less VG according to “Record Collector” magazine standards if it wasn’t for the repair which is delicately done from behind (no “Carry On” jokes, please) and actually LOOKS MORE LIKE A CREASE.
Don’t blame me. I didn’t repair it.
This was my own copy, which I’ve played to my beautiful long-suffering wife and cats every Christmas for the last several years.
I recently found another copy in perfect condition for BIG MONEY at a record fair, so I’m letting this one go with a low starting price.
