Musicians: Walter Carlos performs electronic synthesiser along with some classical music. There are two songs by the wonderful Sunforest and Gene Kelly sings his famous standard, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’.

Brief Info: An absolutely essential and brilliant soundtrack to one of Stanley Kubrick’s most controversial films. Alex, a young thug, fuelled on drug cocktails from the Korova Milk Bar and the music of Beethoven, with his droogs cause mayhem, violence and then death, he is caught and reconditioned until he is cured – or is he? Sountracks rarely get better than this, stirring classics are blended with quirky Carlos synths and cameo performances by Sunforest. As memorable as the movie, this for me is one of the greatest ever soundtracks. This was popular and so many copies are scratched or played to destruction with shabby, tired looking covers. This later pressing is neither and looks fantastic and plays well with any surface sounds very few and light on what is a difficult album with quiet passages.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: a single format with semi-shiny coated surfaces. Manufactured in Germany, includes the plain white inner sleeve.

Cover Front: Overall, clean and fresh with the same artwork as the original. A little creasing and a small press mark, but not a great deal else.

Cover Back: The back has very little to fault at all.

Top & Bottom Edges: Both straight and unworn, the top has text as per the spine, this is unworn also.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with no wear and guaranteed untrimmed. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Almost as-made: solid, straight with any compression little and very light. All text is perfect and unworn, also very well centred as seen.

Corners: No tip rubbing of any note, excellent or better shape retained without bashes.

Cover Summary: An example this famous soundtrack cover, with the coating, the graphic looks even more impressive, it will please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: PRACTICALLY MINT: a plain white unlined inner manufactured in Western Germany in 1984. Clean, fresh, barely creased with no edge splits or repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): and this being critical for a record played just once by its one original owner. A super visual copy that is very clean, shiny quite solidly pressed. Any surface blemishes minuscule. Visually a super record that should please most collectors.

I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Always a challenging record with some very quiet passages. This offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear with no tracking issues*. Sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Silence is a near impossible ask on this one with very fine grooves, any tiny fragment can cause the odd sporadic tick or so. But this German-manufactured record is very well pressed overall and very little spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This soundtrack as been a long standing favourite of mine for many years. Brilliant music that works perfectly, not quite pristine, but it will take a near remarkable example to better this. It should please many collectors, unless digital silence is mandatory, with many originals in poor conditions, this hardly played example will always have a better chance and this performs superbly for most. Even though not an original, strong recommendation is still merited.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
