Description
A Christmas Gift For You--Various artists--Philles PHLP 4005. Well, here it is, that time of the year again that we start digging out our holiday music once more, and why not a copy of this one from one of the greatest names in the music biz, Phil Spector. Released in 1963, this is a favorite of many, including Brian Wilson, (played piano on several cuts), Sonny Bono, (assistant), and the list goes on and on, this album didn't do well at the beginning, because of the President Kennedy catastrophe, it would be the early 70's when a reissue was released by the iconic Apple records. Alright then, this is about as early a second press as one can get, it started out on the blue label, then a few months later went to the yellow label that you see here. Some issues, will do the best I can to list them all---SIDE ONE Track one, lite ticks at the beginning, then a few lite ones here and there, not bad--Track two, lite pop or two, Track three, very lite pop or two, Track four plays great except a few low pops at the end, Track five has a few pops at the beginning and Track six plays great meaning NO noise at all. SIDE TWO Track one, five louder pops at the beginning and then great til the end, Track two plays great and then has a few pops at the end, Tracks three AND four play great, Track five has some low pops first ten seconds or so then great the rest of the way, and Track six has a few pops at the beginning. Now the jacket, not bad, the front has a few sticking points a slight bit of ring wear, three of the four corners have some sort of creasing, one corner has a tiny bit of fraying, check it out, love the lacquer finish, the spine looks to be the best part, it's very sturdy and quite legible. The back has the same bit of ring wear as the front does, all of the pics of the artists are VERY legible, again, please check out the pics. The vinyl has some spindle marks, not bad, there are a few scuff lines, a few lite scratches, that I could not feel with a fingernail, there are pressing bubbles, tiny ones that for the most part are played over, I also tried to locate the issue where one of the tracks, first track on side two, but my gut feeling is that it is another pressing imperfection. Oh well to that!!! The shiny wax makes up for it. So in summary, both record and cover aren't bad enough to be graded a VG- but on the other hand aren't good enuf to be called VG+ either. So, lets go with a high ended VG, this historic album is good enough to listen to in ANY condition, but for the sake of all the collectors out there, won't get to carried away.
