A Spiritual Offering:
The album is a profound, deeply personal musical declaration of Coltrane's spirituality
and gratitude to God following his triumph over drug and alcohol addiction in 1957.
Coltrane himself included a poem and a letter in the liner notes,
calling the work a "humble offering to Him."

ABOUT:

The Four-Part Suite: It is composed as a continuous, through-composed suite
in four distinct parts, intended to represent a spiritual journey toward enlightenment:

TRACKS:
#1)...."Part I – Acknowledgement": The awakening to a spiritual life.
It is famously built on a four-note motif (an ostinato bass riff) that
Coltrane eventually chants with his voice as "A Love Supreme"
twelve times in all keys, symbolizing God's omnipresence.
#2)...."Part II – Resolution": Portrays the dedication and resolve
required to follow the spiritual path.
#3)../.."Part III – Pursuance": A dynamic and searching segment that
represents the active pursuit of that spiritual experience.
#4)...."Part IV – Psalm": The final realization and expression of enlightenment.
Coltrane's saxophone solo on this track is a "musical narration" where he "plays"
the words of the devotional poem included in the liner notes,
conveying a sense of final gratitude and peace.

The Classic Quartet:
This album features Coltrane's "Classic Quartet":
McCoy Tyner on piano
Jimmy Garrison on bass
Elvin Jones on drums.
They are all remarkably in tune with Coltrane's spiritual and improvisational vision,
blending modal jazz, hard bop, and avant-garde elements.

The GR-155 catalog number identifies a specific re-issue of this album, often a 1995 or 2015
vinyl pressing by Impulse!/Verve, which is a re-release of the original 1965 studio recording.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

First off, let me tell you these Albums (LP’s) are being listed
by a non-grader, I am not a record collector or enthusiast in the field.
I am giving you a subjective opinion-based description of the Album & Jacket, etc.

This album has not been played by me.
I list all opened Albums (LP's) as “Very Good” even if they have
fine hairline superficial scratches, paper scuff marks (unless otherwise noted).

Most of these records are clean; some need to be cleaned.
On some you may have to clean finger, dust, and/or smudge marks.
All of these records are flat….not warped.
I try to list any minor blemishes it may have. I may miss some. Everyone does!
Examples: Scuffs, scratches, marks, paper marks, surface wear, ring wear, edge wear,
tears, rips or tears to the dust sleeve, punch holes, shelf wear or rub marks, etc.
To me, a smudge mark is different from a scratch, and that smudge mark will not affect play.
In some cases I may not know if these are the original Paper Dust Sleeves.
In some cases I may forget to tell you the condition of the Paper Dust Sleeves.
In some cases I may miss that a Seam Tear(s) to the Paper Dust Sleeves.
If I miss an issue that's important to you, it was not done on purpose!

I have learned that it is normal to see minor blemishes on a second-hand record.
As you know, an album that goes through a few plays without a cleaning can cause
light dust build-up, which blocks the stylus from fully reading the record grooves, ending in distortion.
