Description
Dexter Gordon: Daddy Plays the Horn (Bethlehem BCP 36, U.S. pressing, 1955)
We're auctioning an outstanding copy of Dexter Gordon's 1955 masterpiece "Daddy Plays the Horn." With Kenny Drew, Leroy Vinnegar, and Lawrence Marable, Dex recorded the title cut, "Confirmation," "Darn that Dream," "Number Four," "Autumn in New York," and "You Can Depend on Me." We've seen a few copies of this often reissued LP over the years and they're usually played to death. This copy is in phenomenal condition: the A side is impeccable, the B side has a little shadowing and a light mark or two, so we put it on the turntable - remarkable play: two or three very faint clicks at the start of "Autumn in New York", just the occasional hint of surface noise otherwise (sure, put your ear right up to the speaker, you'll find it) but these caveats notwithstanding as clean a copy as one could demand. We grade it a very, very solid NM-. It's a promo copy, so there's a small punch through the label (a label, we should point out, which is bright and crisp) and, sadly, our copy is housed not in the issued sleeve (or so it would seem) but in an unmarked and unadorned white sleeve with the label number ("BCP 36") pencilled to its edge. For what its worth, the sleeve is just mildly soiled but the corners are straight, the edges unfrayed, the body of the sleeve just very mildly soiled from use.
All LPs are examined in a good light and sampled on a Technics Direct Drive Quartz SL1200MK2.
KEY: We grade the vinyl alone: sleeves are described and pictured. NM: Sealed LPs; assume unplayed. NM-: Vinyl which has no more than very occasional and very light surface noise. VG+: Vinyl which has more than very occasional and very light surface noise. VG-: Vinyl which has considerable surface noise but which does not completely overwhelm the music. These grades are exhaustive for our auctions; nothing of lower quality is on offer.

For the US, we usually prefer to ship everything USPS priority mail or first class with a delivery confirmation number. Priority mail offers average 2-3 days delivery of shipment. Other methods of shipping are available upon request. Postcards, photos, and flat items will be shipped priority mail for best service. We will ship worldwide. PLEASE NOTE:international buyers please be aware of currency exchanges and we will assess shipping rates accordingly. If there are specific exporting problems involving the item that you won, let us know about this ahead of time please.
