The Tribe's as of yet swansong. And in my eyes more of a pop album than any of the others. And I think it is good for it.

This is an album about primarily love and sex and it as always sounds awesome. The beats are still great and are extremely uplifting, if not as jazzy as the usual 'Tribe Sound'. The Ummah gents did a really great job on these and as I have come to expect with the Quest, the drums are amazing. Busta, NORE and Redman's guest turns are all great and they really add a variety of voices. Tip is as sharp as usual but it's Phife that I'm particularly impressed with here; the flow and delivery really add an extra dimension to the already tight rhymes. Plus this album is hookfilled, particularly on songs like 'Pad and Pen' and the single 'Find A Way, that one in particular really sticking with me.

The individual tracks here are pretty great if a little inconsistent but I enjoy listening to this so much that my head seems to ignore these moments. The bass on 'Rock Rock Y'all', the synthesized strings on 'The Love, the beatboxing at the start of 'Hot 4 U' all stand out to me as great moments. And, I hope you got your copy of this with bonus tracks on, as pretty much all of them stand up with the best on this album. All three remixes are really sublime, the intense 'Scenario', the chilled cut of 'Oh My God' and the furious beat and scratching on the what is apparently a re-recording of 'Jazz (We've Got)' make the end of this album really rock. Plus of the other tracks 'Hot Sex' in particular is a pretty twisted jam.

Many will say Tribe lost it after Midnight Marauders but I personally feel all five of their albums are really, really good, with none of them below four stars for me at this moment. While this album in my opinion doesn't have the intrigue of Paths, the beats of Low End, the smoothness of Midnight Marauders and the lyricism of Beats, Rhymes it is enjoyable because it is so damn listenable, and I enjoy it when I'm fully taking it in and when I'm not.
