********************************* An excellent copy of this quite rare NZ 1st pressing from AC/DC, their 10th studio album released in June 1985.
Similar to "Flick of the Switch (1983)", "Fly on the Wall" is a self-produced affair with the two Young brothers wanting to bring out the rawness of their early material as opposed to the more polished and pop-oriented sound productions of many contemporary hard rock and metal albums. Original drummer Phil Rudd, who had been playing on all AC/DC albums since the band´s debut had left the band before recording with his place is taken by Simon Wright here.
Four albums into the Brian Johnson led AC/DC era and the music on "Fly on the Wall" still resonates the bands hardcore signature sound. A heavy rocking rhythm section, the raw bluesy hard rock riffing from the Young brothers (and some awesome guitar solos by Angus) and of course Brian Johnson´s impressive rusty wail. Although there are few standout tracks on the album it "only" sold about 1 million copies upon release, which was considered a disappointment at the time, and generally received bad reviews, "Fly on the Wall" really isn´t that different from most other AC/DC releases. It might lack those really standout tracks that are splattered across earlier efforts, but the real reason for the relatively low sales was probably more due to the musical climate at the time (the rise and commercial success of glam in particular), than because of the quality of the album.
Still, you can’t expect them to stand and deliver awesome blockbusters every time they venture into the studio and “Fly On The Wall” is by no means a dud.
