Description
I won't pretent to know what I'm talking about when it comes to this acetate ! I basically have little to no idea.....as this is the only one I have ever owned. I have no idea about how to describe its condition to a collector of acetates, except for what I can see and hear :-) So, please bear my ignorance in mind when reading this........
There are no references on the disc to who the artist is, or where/when the recording was made.
The only possible visible identifiers are the numbers 46 and 55 to both sides.
I am however 99.9% sure it is George Lewis ( the clarinetist not trombonist ).
It is definately a live recording, with an extatic audience :-)
The 8 tracks on the album, as far as I can make out are:
Burgandy Street Blues St Philips Street Breakdown Nobody Knows The Way I Feel Over The Waves Ice Cream Corrine, Corrina Mama Don't 'low/When The Saints No Place Like Home
Happy to stand corrected on the track listing - but I think its right.
Visual condition: (unfortunately, it looks much better in the photos than in my hand!), surface is fairly dull, not overly, but certainly does not retain the lustre of a new standard vinyl. If it were a 78, I would described it as having moderate even wear. There are "chips" to the edges of the disc, revealing the metal plate beneath. The chips do not extend into the playing area of the vinyl coating, nowhere near actually, but they do exist - I have shown some in the photos. There are a few light scuffs/scratches to the surface.
Playback. I have played this twice. Once ( about 20 years ago when I bought it in a "junk" shop ), then again for this listing. Overall, it plays very well indeed, probably a VG to VG+ in standard vinyl grading. The music is loud and clear - vocals are quiet, but suggest thats the original live recording rather than the acetate, as the music remains loud. Theres a shade of crackle to the intro of Ice cream, there are 2 light tics on Over The Waves. There are a few other sporadic tics here and there, and some very light scuffing sounds to the intro of No Place Like Home, but there's nothing to spoil the overall enjoyment of the disc at all.
The sleeve is a plain white generic sleeve, not the original emidisc envelope.
