Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. 1. RARE Original BRITISH 1970 TRANSATLANTIC acid-psychedelic/progressive underground, to the likes of Group 1850 meets early Hawkwind
  2.                Marsupilami is a pretty strange sounding name, but this band is possessed of a chaotic edge that makes them one of the more exciting progressive/psych discoveries.

  3. This 1970 album is the first of two little-known wonders the band cut during its all-too brief heyday. You may keep wavering as to which of the two albums might be your favorite, but they're both very much worth having. What makes Marsupilami so interesting it that the band was over and done before the rules and formulas that define progressive art-rock were set in stone.

The first track here, Dorian Deep begins on a pretty ominous note that doesn't quite let up throughout the album. Eventually a powerful bass-driven song unfolds, with the organ and drums helping to build up the atmosphere while the vocals (always melodramatic and occasionally downright manic!) sing an unusual melody. Dorian Deep is a fantastic piece with Mike Fouracre's frantic drums occasionally being quite tribal in nature, and Jessica Stanley Clarke's flute flittering about constantly ...
  4. there's even time for a bit of acid-laced poetry before a high octane distortion guitar jam takes over.

To Be Free starts off as languid flute-driven piece before suddenly exploding into another frenzied fuzzed-out jam, and the Leary Hasson organ solo gives this one a complex jazz edge. Finally the flute reclaims the piece and the listener is thrown back to that now seemingly distant mellow beginning

The imagery in And The Eagle Chased The Dove To Its Ruin is pretty neat, even though the cut with the most vocals and the least instrumental interludes.

Ab Intio Ad Finem (The Opera) which runs for nearly 11 minutes. It begins with a musical box kind of sound before a march gradually takes over. Some pipe organ creeps in and after 2 minutes, an excellent organ/tribal drum jam ensues and after a minute or two, some delightful flute chips in. It then becomes a distortion-guitar freak out, before flute leads the band back into a pastoral section, before everything takes off again on a wild complex jam at around the 7 minute mark. May be the albums highlight of a solid album (all tracks are great.)

Facilis Descencus Averni is a different beast altogether, perhaps even more jarring than the most manic moments of Dorian Deep. There's crazed laughter, more acid-poetry, distorted organ that reaches in and almost tears at one's ears, and a another high-powered fuzz-guitar fueled jam, with a drastic switch to a meditative flute passage ... before the vocal part restates itself.

There are vibes of all the top level true acid-psych underground glories found at the cusp of 1970 including your favorites, even Quintessence and Iron Butterfly, though as powerful as those groups could be, Marsupilami has more to offer the listener than either of these two bands. This master-work was done before the likes of Yes, Genesis and ELP hitting their peak and tons more freakier.

  5. CONDITION:

  6. The cover: rated: near "EX" (excellent) which remains quite collectible given this lightly textured cover is so ultra delicate. you'll be hard pressed to find a better cover given the fragility and 50+ years onward since the gem was released. There are no delete marks, no split seams, and no writing  ...

  1. The vinyl: Rated: VG++ mostly , there are assorted very light inner sleeve type nothing scuffs , also two needle marks, one shorter, one longer that may(?) cause low-audible ticks -or not; have not play graded though can see that most of will cheerfully play as thrilling as the heavy-edged proceeds have been explained above in the music description.  Both UK Transatlantic labels are clean
