Lovely copy of the rare original 1957 pressing of the Africa Speaks, America Answers LP by the legendary African musician and radio journalist, Guy Warren, with Red Saunders and his Orchestra, directed by Gene Esposito, on Decca DL-8446. Exotica-era blend of African drums and American jazz arrangements. Guy Warren was an interesting character. Wikipedia says this: Guy Warren, who's real name was Warren Gamaliel Kpakpo Akwei and was also known as Kofi Ghanaba (4 May 1923 – 22 December 2008), and he was a Ghanaian musician, best known as the inventor of "Afro-jazz." "the reuniting of African-American jazz with its African roots" — and as a member of The Tempos, alongside E. T. Mensah. He also inspired musicians such as Fela Kuti. Warren's virtuosity on the African drums earned him the appellation "The Divine Drummer." At different stages of his life, he also worked as a journalist, DJ and broadcaster.
Anyhow this copy is just lovely. The disc has some minor scuffs and light marks but it plays loud and clear with only light background noise in places. Not bad at all. This is a really great sounding copy. The cover is quite beautiful as well, with a 6" seam split at the top edge, and some light corner wear and general handling wear, but not bad at all. Overall a beautiful copy. Rare to find in such condition.
