Work songs and dances of the fishermen and boat people

along the Ogoué river. Bawoubou people from the Mounzaï 

village near Lemba.  Recorded 1946 by Didier and Rouget 

during their famous Ogoué-Congo expedition.  For these 

recordings, Rouget's field notes specify the many instruments 

used. Ngomo drum, sticks, magnuala bells attached to the 

ankles or waist, masuko nut shells on a leather bracelet worn 

underneath the knee, or affixed to a handle and beaten with 

a hand. Every man wears a nguta rattle. And a man by the name 

of Mbango complains at the end of the recording that his knife 

was forgotten at the other end of the village. (G. Rouget, pp 256-258)
