AHMED ABDUL MALIK 'SOUNDS OF AFRICA' LP NEW JAZZ RECORDS MONO NJLP 8282 * * * MONO, IN SHRINK copy of Ahmed Abdul Malik's ahead of it's time 1962 classic. Fusing jazz with African and Brazilian sounds and rhythms, this record is unique and brilliant. Featuring Tommy Turrentine, Edwin Steede, Taft Chandler, Calo Scott, Richard Williams, Eric Dixon, Rupert Alleyne, Rudy Collins, Montego Joe, Cheif Bey, and a young Andrew Cyrille! Original (Not the recent reissue!) with purple and silver New Jazz label , and VAN GELDER stamp in dead wax. (Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder.) * * * VINYL:VG++ (STUNNING, LUSTROUS, THICK VINYL PLAYS AMAZINGLY! Although there are some insignificant , superficial abrasions, the wax looks great and has retained it's sheen over the years.) LABELS: VG++ (Labels show some minimal insignificant abrasions and wear, but no unsightly damage. ) COVER: NM (Nice thick cover looks amazing, especially for it's age! No real 'dings' - all corners nice , firm, and pointy. No ring wear either! Shrink is still tight and in tact, with one tear near top right corner, visible in pic below. RW stamp on back cover.)
