AKAI GX:4000D REEL TO REEL TAPE DECK
You are bidding on a used AKAI model GX-4000D GX4000D REEL-TO-REEL OPEN REEL TAPE DECK. Fairly high-end consumer deck in its day. Works great - sounds great - Ready to go plug-and-play. Very good+ overall cosmetics. One-motor mechanical transport 3-head no-pressure-pad design. Has Akai’s proprietary Glass and Xtal Ferrite heads. Two speeds - 3-3/4 IPS and 7-1/2 IPS - achieved via removable sleeve and thumbnut (both present) which stow under the head cover - Akai engineers felt that this design dramatically simplified the mechanism, and eliminated many parts which contribute to wow and flutter. Large illuminated VU meters. Record safety, record mode LED. Track selector control (stereo, 1-4, 3-2). RCA and DIN input and output jacks. Microphone jacks (standard 1/4" phone) on front panel - CAN mix mic & line. Headphone jack on front panel, along with output level control. Mechanical pause control with release button. Auto transport off (shuts off motor, but does not disengage pinch roller etc.). Four-digit mechanical tape counter with reset button. Buttons for tape/source monitor, SOS, EQ 3-3/4 or 7-1/2, tape type wide-range/low-noise. Operable either horizontally or vertically. Integral reel locks - no rubber nonsense required. Please remember that this is a DECK, and not a RECORDER - requires an outboard amplifier or receiver to drive speakers.
