Details
- LPs are not play graded.
- LPs are visually graded under a bright 100W or greater bulb after cleaning on a VPI 16.5.
- I do not play grade for three reasons:
- First, every TT stylus tracks and plays differently, thus, what you hear and I hear are most likely different.
- Second, some audiophile LPs require "breaking-in" as they were not dehorned. Dehorning is a process that scrubs some surface irregularities from a recently pressed lp. Often considered a somewhat abrasive process that leaves as well as creates abraded areas that do not play well. A preferable approach to dehorning utilizes the diamond stylus on our turntables. After several to a dozen or more plays the stylus gently sands these vinyl irregularities so that during future plays the stylus to track smoothly, plays quietly.
- Third, under the same lighting and assuming 20/20 vision, we see the same thing. So please do not hold me accountable for play grade given this and my commitment to providing an accurate visual grade, the visual grade being the basis for your decision. Occasionally, I may miss something. If I do, please let me know and let's work it out.
- Get you a rare audiophile LP that you are happy.
- Raise some funds from sale that support a young man with autism attend a work program.
- Avoid drama, hassle on all ends.
- Please email/message me with questions. Thanks
VISUAL GRADING (GOLDMINE STANDARD)
M Mint - usually reserved for sealed records.
NM Near Mint is not quite perfect, has only one or two insignificant defects such as sleeve scuff or light mark. Often these lps are audibly perfect or close. Marks may be found in the entry and trail-off areas.
NM-/Excellent Near Mint-/Excellent is visually very nice, close to NM, but not quite as the lp may have a hairline or a couple of marks.
VG++ (or NM-) Extremely nice, would be NM- except for a few light hairline scratches or scuffs which do not affect play.
VG+ A nice but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It may play with a few pops or ticks but no serious problems.
VG A well used record that still sounds OK but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.price rating
