Sensational Alex Harvey Band
'Tomorrow Belongs To Me'
Vertigo, UK, 1975
9102 003
HE WAS, of course, the master performer of the era. A front man like no other and a lyricist of incredible perception. I saw SAHB a couple of times during their heyday and the show was mindblowing - a theatrical extravaganza with Alex assuming a number of personalities and guises all seemingly better and more outrageous than anything else on the scene.
This album was one of the greatest releases of the year. I remember walking around the school playground with a copy tucked under my arm for weeks on end. From the very opening track 'Action Strasse' the action kicks off in super nova form. The massively underated 'Tale Of The Giant Stone Eater' is a showcase for Alex's mad cap poetry; a tale of such riddiculous vision that only he could've come up with the concept.
And the band? Well, Zal Cleminson is the man of the match - his guitar slashes and burns its way through several of the neanest hard rock riffs ever committed to vinyl. 'Snake Bite', 'Ribs And Balls' and 'Sharks Teeth' rock like a bitch but the menace displayed in 'Give My Compliments To The Chef' practically comes at you like sixties Kray's henchman 'mad' Frankie Fraser with a hatchet in each hand.
Oh how we loved him. Alex was the leader of our gang. Vambo rooled my world and everytime I think of him, his passing seems that much harder to bare. If you have this album already then I salute you. If you don't then please take my advice and kit yourself out today.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: Vertigo, UK, 1975
Vinyl: Superb shiny clean condition. Can't see any spindle marks and virtually no other signs of use - probably unplayed! Incredible audio quality. Grades as top shop fresh MINT!
Cover: Again no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated and fully laminated gatefold cover - retains full gloss. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is beautifully stiff, straight and uncrushed - nice 'creak' appeal on opening. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 43 years after release. Grades as top shop fresh MINT!
