OAR - ORIGINAL '69 PRESSING!

This auction is for Alexander ("Skip") Spence - Oar - Columbia CS 9831 ('69). This is a nice copy of the infamous Skip Spence solo record, OAR. Back cover states recorded December 16, 1968. By other accounts the record was recorded in one week. From Wikipedia: "described as "one of the most harrowing documents of pain and confusion ever made", the album was recorded after Spence had spent six months in Bellevue Hospital. Spence had been committed to Bellevue following a delusion-driven attempt to attack Moby Grape bandmates Don Stevenson and Jerry Miller with a fire axe, after having ingested LSD."


At the time of its release in '69, OAR was the lowest selling album in Columbia records history. Now recognized by some as a masterpiece.


GRADING:


DISC: M-, full gloss to playing surface. Just a few ultra light paper sleeve brushes. Plays great.


LABELS: M-, perfect - no spindle marks (see photos).


COVER: VG++, has timing strip (see photos) and "promotional not for sale" stamp on back cover. Some general wear, but very solid.
