[zipedit] Alexis Korner ''A Generation Of Blues''
1st UK Pressing cat. No. ''LBL 83147E'' The Rarest And Most Sought After In ((MONO)) 1st Two Tone Blue Liberty Labels! 1968
1st Issue MacNeil Press Printed Fully Laminated Cover!
Another from my personal collection! This is the Alexis Korner 1st UK issue Mono album. Rarer than the more common, later stereo variations. What makes this collectable is the mono audio is fuller and much more vibrant in my opinion, the way that it should be heard! I have fully play tested the vinyl prior to this listing at very loud volume on a top system and importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge! The audio is cristal clear and very vibrant throughout and plays without any distortion or grooveware heard at all! An awesome sounding blues album!
Alexis Korner (19 April 1928 — 1 January 1984) was a blues musician and radio broadcaster, who has sometimes been referred to as "a Founding Father of British Blues".
A major influence on the sound of the British music scene in the 1960s, Korner was instrumental in bringing together various English blues musicians. In 1961, Korner and Davies formed Blues Incorporated, initially a loose-knit group of musicians with a shared love of electric blues and R&B music. The group included, at various times, such influential musicians as Charlie Watts, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Long John Baldry, Graham Bond, Danny Thompson and Dick Heckstall-Smith. It also attracted a wider crowd of mostly younger fans, some of whom occasionally performed with the group, including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Geoff Bradford, Rod Stewart, John Mayall and Jimmy Page.
One story is that The Rolling Stones went to stay at Korner's house late one night, in the early 1960s, after a performance. They entered in the accepted way, by climbing in through the kitchen window, to find Muddy Waters' band sleeping on the kitchen floor.
Although Cyril Davies left the group in 1963, Blues Incorporated continued to record, with Korner at the helm, until 1966. However, by that time its originally stellar line-up and crowd of followers had mostly left to start their own bands. "While his one-time acolytes The Rolling Stones and Cream made the front pages of music magazines all over the world, Korner was relegated to the role of 'elder statesman'." Although he himself was a blues purist, Korner criticised better-known British blues musicians during the blues boom of the late 1960s for their blind adherence to Chicago blues, as if the music came in no other form.
He liked to surround himself with jazz musicians and often performed with a horn section drawn from a pool that included, among others, saxophone players Art Themen, Mel Collins, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Lol Coxhill, Dick Morrissey, John Surman and trombonist Mike Zwerin.

The Vinyl
This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and looks awesome for 44 years old , still retaining its original sheen from new! On initial inspection it is hard for me to see a blemish at all, This looks almost like new! Only in strong light can any surface marks/scuffs fine removal scratches are possibly seen , at least (No marks that are audio sounding,, At least nothing that caused any loud clicks or pops that I heard))
The Audio Quality
I have played this through track for track at very loud volume on a top system! The audio was superbe cristal clear and played with no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed! , Absolutely cristal clear and very vibrant and fantastic vibrant deep bassey feel only heard like this on these original monos! (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly (no) distortion I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near mint!
Please note! I have carefully played this album track for track prior to listing and I have given my honest opinion on the audio wquality as I heard it. Please allow for the odd light static/ tick (not consistant throughout the audio) Please remember that this is a 44 year old vinyl that would have originaly been played on a 44 year old system, in my opinion all indications are that this vinyl has barely ever been played!
A constant clean before each play is highly recomended, this vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 25 years, a build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static a constant clean before each play will reduce this and enhance the audio quality!
The Labels
These are the original 1st issue two tone blue Liberty labels There is just bare minimal spider traces only really noticed if looked for in my opinion. This has obviously only been played a minimal amount of times in my opinion!
The record sleeve
This is the original plain white sleeve in superbe condition.
The cover
This is the original 1st UK fully laminated MacNeil Press Printed cover (only 1st UK press)! Very hard to keep in good condition. There are no splits or tares. There is just very light creasings to talk of, very minor small at the front and two noticed at the rear only really noticeable if looked for in my opinion and very light rubbing or storage ware only! This is very strong and straight as it should be! It is important to note, that I have stored this album in a case with the vinyl and sleeve seperated Since new! which has obviously preserved this cover very very rare like this! This must grade at least excellent if not better!
