ALICE IN WONDERLAND Jane Powell Original 1957 LP Lewis Carroll RARE Alice in Wonderland (full title: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) is a beloved 1865 children's novel by Lewis Carroll (the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, an Oxford mathematician and logician). It's one of the most famous works of Victorian literature, filled with nonsense, wordplay, logic puzzles, satire of adult rules and customs, and dreamlike absurdity. The story follows a curious young girl named Alice who tumbles into a bizarre fantasy world after following a hurried White Rabbit down a rabbit hole. Quick Plot Summary Alice is bored on a riverbank when she spots a White Rabbit in a waistcoat, fretting about being late and pulling out a pocket watch. Intrigued, she follows him down the rabbit hole and falls slowly through a strange tunnel lined with shelves and objects. She lands in Wonderland, a place where logic is upside-down: She drinks from a bottle labeled "DRINK ME" and grows/shrinks dramatically. She eats a cake that changes her size again. She meets a hookah-smoking Caterpillar who asks philosophical questions ("Who are you?"). She encounters the grinning Cheshire Cat (famous for disappearing, leaving only its smile behind). She joins a chaotic Mad Hatter's tea party with the March Hare and Dormouse, where time is stuck at tea-time and riddles have no answers ("Why is a raven like a writing-desk?"). She plays an absurd croquet game with the temperamental Queen of Hearts ("Off with their heads!"), using flamingos as mallets and hedgehogs as balls.
