BIX BEIDERBECKE MEMORIAL ALBUM
Up for bid is the 1936 "All Star Album Presenting the Original Pioneers of Swing" also known as the BIX BEIDERBECKE MEMORIAL ALBUM. This Rare Memorial Box Set of (6) 78rpm shellac records belonged to the late musician, arranger, composer and friend of Bix, BILL CHALLIS. Also includes the 12 page pamphlet by Warren Scholl, secretary of the Hot Club of New York. All are in excellent condition. The album itself has been covered with an acetate cover which has protected the outside jacket these many years. I am not a record grader but in visually inspecting the records I see no defects. Each record jacket has been annotated by Mr. Challis as to the Take and Release Date. Since he arranged most of the music for these records, he would best know. I found 2 differences between what Bill Challis has marked and what is usually accepted as to the Take used.
The 6 discs and the 12 tunes are:
- Mississippi Mud and Lonely Melody 25366 A&B
-
San and When 25367 A&B
-
Sugar and From Monday On 25368 A&B
-
Louisiana and You Took Advantage of Me 25369 A&B
-
Changes and Deep Down South 25370 A&B
-
Bessie Couldn't Help It and Barnacle Bill 25371 A&B
Some of the artists involved with Bix are Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra, the Rhythm Boys (Bing Crosby), The Dorsey Brothers, Frankie Trumbauer, Jack Teagarden among others. Please check out the photos which are a part of the description.
