The legendary New Orleans composer, arranger, band leader and pianist Allen Toussaint played on pretty much every single memorable song to come out of Big Easy since late 1950’s. There is barely a song associated with New Orleans that this great producer and arranger did not tackle. From Meters to Dr.John, from Irma Thomas to Lee Dorsey, from Neville Brothers to Fats Domino and on to late, great ‘Fessa Longhair, Allen Toussaint has seen ‘em - and played with them - all. This fantastic first album from 1958 demonstrates the power and majesty of Toussaint’s piano playing. Toussaint’s piano phrasing and syncopation are truly one in a million. He is not only a maestro of songwriting and arranging, he is truly an American original. This album will demonstrate the exquisite gumbo-like mixture of musical tastes and influences: Caribbean, African, Cuban, Kreyol, Rhumba and Funk, all of which find a little place in the sun under New Orleans’ tolerant and easy going skies. In addition, if you have never been aware of the influence of Ragtime in the evolution of American music, this album should give you a definite and very authoritative idea. The album is a proverbial chockfull of goodies. Probably the best known song on the album is Toussaint’s "Java" , later immortalized by Al Hirt. Allen Toussaint later went on to produce - and play with - the likes of Esther Phillips, Little Feat and many other, but he never really regained this brief moment of explosive creative energy he demonstrated on this album. The songs are: Whirlaway - Up the Creek - Tim Tam - Me and You - Bono - Java - Happy Times - Wham Toussan - Nowhere to go - Nashua - Po’ Boy walk - Pelican Parade

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record comes in a hi-grade MFSL PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!
(c) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(d) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(e) Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.
(f) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP; HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR VG++

- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

- Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease) in one of the corners (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
- Cover has one corner slightly worn / frayed / bent.
