Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with spindle marks on the lighter side of moderate and being fine and light with modest visibility under angled light. Have no fears, this record looks and plays beautifully.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 138 grams. A very good solid weight typical of the era.

Rarity: Scarce: in my opinion, the hardest Allman’s album to find and this record is a beauty.

Brief Info: The second album and arguably rarest from this wonderful original band. A stunning prelude to their next album which was the classic ‘Live at Fillmore East’ double set. One of the greatest ‘guitar’ bands ever and this is a superb high fidelity recording. Just looking at the playing surfaces with the complex wide jagged grooves will tell any vinyl reader this has immense sound and volume. I have tried to capture these incredible grooves on my pictures – this rock album looks more like a test or classical record. Possibly played a few times but the playing surfaces and labels look lovely with just a few fine and light surface marks only that have no sound – there are NO penetrating scratches on these super-shiny surfaces. My first ever copy of this on vinyl and this was a total thrill to play-grade. The cover is ultra flimsy and fragile and will in most cases have wear. Most on this one on the edges but the main front and back look fine with little. So a rare original UK pressing of this very elusive album and the record especially will take some beating.

Cover Grade and Format: NEAR EXCELLENT: a single unlaminated format made with soft thin card. Printed and made in England by MacNeill.

Cover Front: The front has little wear on the main area and has barely any creasing or rim impression. Considering the thickness of the record, that is a bonus and surprise. There is rubbing on the edges which I feel sure have been improved by the previous owner. But this apart, there is little else to fault on this fragile front.

Cover Back: The odd small mark on the main area and again, no ringwear. The edges as per above with some more evident rubbing on the ever edge of the spine fold.

Top Edge: There appears minimal rubbing, but I feel sure this has been improved by the previous owner – if this is suspected – I will always mention the fact.

Bottom Edge: Some clear rubbing and improvement as per above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, quite sharp with little wear, any thickening or burring very mild and faint, this is guaranteed untrimmed. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: The fragile spine has rubbed and chipped so around 75 per cent of the text is gone. Thin and fragile, it will take an exceptional one to fine this area intact. Still reasonably solid with no splits but a little ragged compared to most of what I offer. So the edges could be an issue for the more discerning collector, but I for one am more interested in the main front and back areas and certainly the record which looks and plays superbly.

Corners: Moderate rubbing with fine shape retained.

Cover Summary: Not for the more discerning, but it will never prove easy to find with pristine edges. Viewed front and back, still an attractive one, these crucial areas have avoided any real wear. If the record, music and rarity is the more important factors, this copy delivers.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): a polylined Polydor-style inner with two immaculate window circles and ultra clear lining. Aged little with just mild darkening of the seam adhesive. Barely any creasing and all edges unsplit with no repairs. This is date-coded 119 (November 1969) as can be seen on my close-up picture.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: and this hardly does this lovely record full justice. A very fine visual copy that is very clean with lovely rich shine, intense black and very solidly pressed. The grooves wide, deep and complex with very jagged appearance, and no magnifier needed to see the fact. As stated above, this looks more like a hi-fi test record than a rock album. This has rich sound, high volume and superb dynamics and will make any worthy system excel. A copy with fairly modest plays on all the evidence with any surface trace marks very light and faint as seen critically under bright angled light. This has no penetrating scratches and offers very impressive sound. Visually a super record that should please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This rarest Allman’s album plays above it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will outperform this very early pressing significantly I feel sure. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, my first ever on vinyl and I was VERY impressed. For me, their best studio album with marvellous guitar-driven songs of utmost quality. The cover may have some edge wear, but the this elusive record will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
