Alma Cogan, I Love To Sing.
With Frank Cordell and His Orchestra.Scarce original 1958 debut album.
UK pressed HMV Records mono LP, CLP 1152.
Earliest issue heavy pressing with dark purple and gold labels and very early 1N/1N matrix suffixes and A 1 / G 1 mothers/stampers.
Vinyl extremely well preserved, especially given the 50 plus years vintage. Record labels still have a bright lustre, with no fading to the gold print. Just a tad of very minor age spotting, which is not at all obtrusive. Just a very few light and wispy spider trail marks are visible at centre spindle areas. The playing surfaces still have an extemely high gloss, and side one is close to near mint with no discernible marks. Side two shows just three hairline scuff marks. One of these is tiny, the other two are slghtly longer and a little more visible, but in all instances these are surface only and have no effect on playback.
Playback is superb throughout, really bright and clean. This is an LP which benefits from quiet surfaces, as often the instrumentation and vocals are sparse and not forgiving of background noise. The surfaces are impressively quiet, and there is no underlying background noise or crackle, even at the run-ins or band separators. No ticks or clicks. Generally appears a little and very carefully played LP, with surfaces grading EX+, and playback, if anything, better. Tough to upgrade in audio terms.
Inner sleeve is original and in excellent condition. No browning or seam splits.
External sleeve is mostly very well preserved. Only really marred by an approx. three inch closed tear to bottom right of front panel. This has been repaired with a strip of sellotape which is beginning to yellow with age and peel back a little. The tear is very neat however, and with no loss. I should think that with some careful restoration it could be made to look very good again, with little sign of it's presence. Else the sleeve would grade a strong EX, very clean and bright. The front and rear panels have intact and undamaged laminate and are very clean and unfaded. There is just a touch of ringwear impression, which is all but unavoidable on these early and flimsy 1950's sleeves. Edges are well preserved and without seam splits or fraying, and entry side is still very acceptably crisp. There are just a few of the tinest hairline pinch creases at spine area, just one of which has become a really negligible split. Spine lettering is all perfectly legible and spine is not squashed or otherwise damaged. Rear backflaps intact and not peeled or damaged.
All in all, an unusually clean survivor. There can't be many extant issues left in this kind of condition.
