What It Is:
This is a private label issue from a "collaboration of some very gifted and talented musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area." It's a 7" single that was a local hit in the bay area. One side is Culpable and the other is San Francisco. This copy has been signed by Mario Fortin and has family information including phone numbers.
"The compositions on this recording were written and composed by Chris Velasquez, the band's musical director. and feature the extraordinary vocal interpretation of Johnny Castaing, who sings lead vocal parts on both "San Francisco" and "Culpable". Also featured on this recording is a Timbal solo on the composition "San Francisco" by Gibby Ross, the youngest member of the group. At sixteen years of ago Gibby has already toured with the great Tito Puente and has performed in concert with several top Salsa orchestras; there is no question that he has a very bright and promising future ahead of him. Additionally, Alma del Barrio features the excellent and very creative "Cuatro" playing of Mike Rios, the hard-hitting and dynamic "Conga" playing of Mario Fortin, the smooth and experienced "Timbal" playing of Joe Ross and last but not least the steady "Tumbao" of Pete Gallegos on electric bass.
Condition:
Sleeve: VG+. Writing on front from band member Mario Fortin. Sleeve has creases generally across the front, less on back, and mainly on top, which also has one 1/4" rip. Overall, still very presentable.Record:
visual grade: VG+. No writing, light hairlines, a 3/4" inaudible scratch on side one. Looks great.
play grade: solid VG++ .
