HERE'S ONE OF THE FIRST up-front, in-your-face, social-activist recording projects ever, the original 1941 Keynote "TALKING UNION" album by the ALMANAC SINGERS.
Organized by PETE SEEGER, LEE HAYS and MILLARD LAMPELL, this group combined old-time American folk music, left-wing politics and anti-fascist social activism in a powerful mixture. The songs in this album are as potent today as they were in 1941, if not more so! In fact, they were SO effective that by the end of '42, the Almanacs were being investigated and called "seditious" by the FBI, who effectively shut them down! But this album lives on!

The Almanac Singers are: PETE SEEGER (banjo), MILLARD LAMPELL (guitar), JOSH WHITE (guitar),, LEE HAYES, SAM GARY, CAROL WHITE, and BESS LOMAX HAWES. Of course, they all sing!
The first number, "Talking Union," though labeled as by the group, is a hard-hitting solo by Pete Seeger, a la "Talking Blues" by Chris
Bouchillon. "Which Side," a chilling indictment of Capitalist injustice, still circulates in Union circles..
"Union Maid" is a message to the ladies, to be good obedient wives to their hard-workin' Union husbands;
which proves that even the most progressive people in 1941 still weren't "woke" enough to embrace
Women's Lib! "Get Thee Behind Me" showcases Josh White's stunning blues guitar playing.
This lot includes the original album cover and book.

These records come from my personal collection, which I have been accumulating since 1961, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I post clear images, Shipping is done with expert care. Your records will be sent Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”

N (78) As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed).
N- (78) Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.
E+ (78) Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets
E (78) Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.
E- (78) Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches.
V++(78) is an above average condition 78 in which light scratches, scuffs and general use have dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is light and listening is enjoyable. There may be a few minor ticks and pops. Surface noise is low.
V+ (78) V+ is an average condition 78 in which light scratches, scuffs and general use have dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate and playing is free from distortion. There are a few minor ticks and pops. Surface noise present but still well in the background.
V (78) Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
V- (78) Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy graying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.
G+ (78). Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.
G (78). Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.
G- (78). Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive.
I know how to pack 78's so that they arrive safe and unbroken
