RARE original German first pressing of Amon Düül II`s Krautrock masterpiece "Yeti", released on Liberty Records (November 1970).
"Described by Lester Bangs in Rolling Stone as "Germany's great psyche-overload band," Amon Düül II delivered some serious mind-fry on their sprawling second album. Heavier and hairier than most of their Krautrock contemporaries, the band melded elements of the Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd and Quicksilver Messenger Service with African, Asian and Indian influences to create something deeply personal and even more deeply weird.
Half of Yeti was completely improvised in the studio, but it's hard to identify which half; pre-written tracks like the opening suite "Soap Shop Rock" and the searing rocker "Archangel Thunderbird" seem to follow their own primal internal compass, while the improvised nine-minute closer "Sandoz in the Rain" (allegedly recorded while the entire band was on acid) is ravishing in its stark, crystalline beauty. MINT- COVER, with only lightest storage wear. Please see the photos for details.
- Original laminated German gatefold sleeve.
- Very minor record imprint (not ring wear!) to front and back of sleeve, due to long-time storage only.
- Single small crease on rear spine (1 inch in length; at right).
- Small superficial scratch on rear cover (1 inch long; near top, at right). Otherwise, the cover is pretty much perfect.
MINT(-) RECORDS that look practically unplayed.
- Absolutely peerless audio reproduction throughout.
- Original black Liberty Records labels with no spindle wear whatsoever.
- A tiny 1 mm nick (from needle drop?) at the very beginning of "Sandoz In The Rain" causes five light clicks: Unfortunate, as both records are otherwise perfect!
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "83 359 A-1" and "83 359 B-1", respectively "83 360 A-2" and "83 360 B-1".
- This double-album is therefore fully certified to be a very early, if not first German pressing of "Yeti", issued in November 1970.
