Welcome! Here is a first UK press of Amon Düül II Dance of the Lemmings (United Artists UAS 60003/4). On this 1971 album, the third from Amon Düül II, the lineup is John Weinzierl, Chris Karrer, Lothar Meid, Peter Leopold, and Kalle Hausmann. As you may know, this is a double album: Disc 1 has new studio material (well, it was new in 1971!), while Disc 2 has heavy psych music – truly, the epitome of Krautrock – that Amon Düül II contributed to the German film Chamsin (actually, this film was not released until 1972). This album offers pristine vinyl, a fantastic E. J. Day laminated sleeve, and period plastic-lined inner sleeves.

Matrix numbers and mother/stamper codes are:

Side 1: UAD 60003 A-1 U 1G.

Side 2: UAD 60003 B-1 U 1G.

Side 3: UAD 60004 A-2 U 1P.

Side 4: UAD 60004 B-1 U 1R.

Using the Record Collector grading system, what do we have here?

Sleeve: The laminated gatefold sleeve grades EX+++, with only a few minor laminate wrinkles to detract. (By far the largest of these – visible only when the light hits it just right – can be seen in my photo of the front cover.) The finish is bright and shiny, almost mirror-like! There is a VERY minor bump to the lower right corner on the front gatefold, but otherwise there is NO wear to the corners. The spine is lovely! There is no ringwear at all! And the inside of the gatefold is superb. Lastly, the gatefold still makes that nice crinkly sound when you open and close it! The sleeve is signed “Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford” on the back.

Vinyl: All four sides of vinyl grade M-. There are no hairlines, no nothing – each side is as new! The sound quality is spectacular! You could not possibly upgrade this vinyl.

Labels: All four labels are bright and clean, with only the faintest traces of spindle tracking on the Disc 1 labels and NO spindle tracking at all on the Disc 2 labels.

Inner Sleeves: Both inners are plastic-lined sleeves from the early 1970s (one has a 0171 date stamp), but they are not identical, which likely means that at least one of these is not original to this album. Both inners are marked ‘Made in England,’ and are in fine condition, with no splits.

And, in the end: Really, this is an outstanding example of Dance of the Lemmings. Get ready to settle back and listen to “The Marilyn Monroe Memorial Church” and . . . detach. Please email me with any questions.

For shipments outside the USA, I generally use the value that eBay shows for First Class Mail International, although if I believe that my packing – on which I pride myself – will likely knock the cost up to the next price level, that is what I will go with initially. If the actual price turns out to be less, I will post an immediate refund for the difference.
