The second album by Amon Düül II, 1970's Yeti, is their first masterpiece, one of the defining early albums of Krautrock.
A double album on vinyl, Yeti consists of a set of structured songs and a second disc of improvisations.
It's testament to the group's fluidity and improvisational grace that the two albums don't actually sound that different from each other, and that the improvisational disc may actually be even better than the composed disc.
The first disc opens with "Soap Shop Rock," a 12-minute suite that recalls King Crimson's early work in the way it switches easily between lyrical, contemplative passages and a more violent, charging sound, and continues through a series of six more songs in the two to six minute range, from the ominous, threatening "Archangels Thunderbird" (featuring a great doomy vocal by mono-named female singer Renate) to the delicate, almost folky acoustic tune "Cerberus."
The improvisational disc contains only three tracks, closing with a nine-minute stunner "Sandoz in the Rain" that's considered by many to be the birth of the entire space rock sub-genre. A delicate, almost ambient wash of sound featuring delicately strummed phased acoustic guitars and a meandering flute and it's possibly the high point of Amon Düül II's entire career.

LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with barely a spindle trace to be seen (and these original black Liberty labels are incredibly easily marked) - this is a beautiful copy which has seen a few very careful plays only
VINYL Visual: All four vinyl surfaces retain their original deep, like-new glossy sheen and are practically unmarked (there are some very light sleeve hairlines these have absolutely no audio consequence) - two beautiful records
VINYL Audio: The audio is absolutely sensational throughout with a crystal clear, strong and vibrant sound. Unbeatable depth and clarity on these first presses with a very impressive loud and powerful cut and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks, no jumps, no clicks or pops and no surface noise. The album plays throughout to just about the highest possible standard with great clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion (it's practically unplayed) and is critically graded a very, very strong NEAR MINT for audio - - fantastic copy - beautifully clean pressing - as good as it gets
SLEEVE: This outer textured, matt, EJ DAY gatefold cover is incredibly prone to wear but this one has held up remarkably well with only a little record impression 'rubbing' to the bottom of the front surface otherwise, beautifully clean, fresh and unmarked. The inner surfaces are also clean and unmarked and the edges and spine display only a little storage wear - all text on the (thick) spine is clear and bold. An outstanding example of this first press cover, one of the finest I have seen - EXCELLENT
