Amos Milburn "Rockin The Boogie" 10-inch LP Aladdin 704 (1955). One of the important bridges from R&B in the '40s to the fusion with other music genres in the '50s, Milburn's recordings have become some of the most sought-after by collectors. And this one's near the top of the list! The 10-inch LP featured eight songs, including Milburn's biggest hit, "Chicken-Shack Boogie" which held the #1 position on Billboard's R&B Singles chart for five weeks in 1948. This is the ORIGINAL tan (sepia) cover, black vinyl version.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          CAUTION! The vinyl is only GOOD TO GOOD+, with multiple, numerous,  scuffs and scratches which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with bearable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and some pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded.

(b)          This album is presented here mostly for its historical value and as a very rare item, which can be exceedingly difficult to find in any other condition

(c)           Important!:  WE CAUTION THAT a bad groove causes the record to 'skip' twice on side 1 ( we reckon that about 4-8 seconds of the music is lost). The two bad grooves are isolated accidents and do not repeat elsewhere on the record. This might be possible to correct by using different stylus tracking force and calibration.

(d)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(e)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(f)            This is the original flat-edge pressing

(g)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD (VG).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split,  as follows:

-         Top seam: between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters.

-         Bottom seam: between 6 and 8 inches  /15 to 20 centimeters.

-         Spine: indeterminable length

-         The bottom seam and the spine have been indelicately taped by the previous owner with two pieces of beige paper packaging tape, which does mimic somewhat the color of the rest of the cover

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged / bent.

-         The cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-         Back cover has some light yellowish stains, probably from exposure to humidity  (nothing significant).

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No wrinkles or creases

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
