Description

GEORGE GERSHWIN'S "AN AMERICAN IN PARIS" never received a better performance on record than the very first one, at the New York Victor 24th Street studio, in February, 1929. Nathaniel Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra played it to God-like perfection. Despite Gershwin's name prominently displayed on the record labels, his actual playing role, on celeste, is rather modest. But his composerly presence was energizing!  


This is a stunning, rip-snorting, riotous, soul-satisfying performance, recorded with the finest 1929 Victor Orthophonic technology. Look no further! Accept no substitutes! THIS is the ONE!  


These two 1929 twelve-inch "Scroll" Victors 35963 and 35964, are in clean EE- condition.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care.
