WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART * Sonatas for Violin and Piano *
 Die beiden Platten, die Clara Haskil und Arthur Grumiaux in den späten 1950er Jahre mit sechs Mozart-Sonaten für Klavier und Violine (um die beiden Instrumente ihrer Priorität entsprechend zu nennen) aufnahmen, gelten bis heute als Modell, an dem spätere Aufnahmen gemessen werden (die oft genug zu wünschen übrig lassen). Nachdem sie viele Jahre vergriffen waren, wurden sie vor Jahren neu aufgelegt im Rahmen eines Albums mit sieben LPs, das Haskil (1895-1960) gewidmet war. Hier ist nun wiederum eine erste Neuauflage mit vier Sonaten, deren Klang so lebhaft und frei von Hintergrundgeräuschen ist, als wäre sie gestern erst aufgenommen worden, wiewohl sie nur in Mono vorliegt. Wirklich eine fantastische Neuauflage: bleibt zu hoffen, dass die beiden andern Mozartsonaten (K454 in B-Moll und K526 in A-Dur) folgen werden, ebenso wie die zehn Beethoven-Sonaten. – Gramophone
The two records that Clara Haskil and Arthur Grumiaux made of six of Mozart's sonatas for piano and violin (to give the two instruments their correct priority) in the late 1950s remain models against which later versions are judged (and often found wanting). After being out of circulation for many years, they were reissued in the seven-LP album devoted to Haskil (1895-1960) years ago. Now we have the first of them, devoted to four sonatas as vivid in sound and as innocent of background noise as if it had been made yesterday, although in mono only. This is a truly miraculous reissue: one hopes that the other two Mozart sonatas (K454 in B flat and K526 in A), and all ten of Beethoven's, will follow. -- The Gramophone
