Andor Foldes, Hungarian pianist, born Budapest December 21, 1913, died Herrliberg near Zürich, Switzerland, February 9, 1992. Studied at the Conservatory Budapest under Ernst von Dohnanyi, debut in Vienna 1922, career since 1932, 1940 in New York, return to Europe in 1948. Toured widely in Europe and Asia.

12" Tono A 165: Brahms, Intermezzo in E flat major No 1 / Rhapsody in G minor op. 79 No 2. Recorded same date. Condition: 2

12" Tono A 169: Schumann, Variationen Abegg in F minor op. 1. Recorded same date. Condtion: 2

Total 9 records, all recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark. These records were used in 2002 for the transfer to the APR-CD.

Grading:

1 = mint, never played on gramophone, is not used

1-2 = top copy, no traces of use - virtually as new

2 = excellent copy, few light non-sounding rubs/marks

2-3 = light traces of wear (rubs/marks), very light greying and/or light scratches, non sounding blemishes

3 = a good average copy with more noticeable rubs and marks; light greying, few light scratches possible

3-4 = more traces of use, sonic wear from light greying. An inferior average copy, light scratches possible

4 = some sounding wear, heavier rubs and marks, scratches possible

5 = obvious sounding wear, heavy rubs, marks, scratches. An unsatisfactory copy.

About me :

Since 1966 I collected 78 rpm records, principally classical pianists. I was looking in many, many second-hand and charitiy-chops, collectors fair, fleamarkets and so on in France, Germany, Austria , Italy and of course in Switzerland. I had always a good contact with others collectors in Great Britain and in the States. Since 1970 I was for a long time member of the City of London Phonograph and Gramophone Society, from 1985 member of the Schellack-Schallplatten-Sammler-Verein, Vienna and from 1990 until today member of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives IASA, section DE/CH. I’m not a « really » record collector, more an admirer of the pianists and a music lover. If you have any problem about 78 rpm records or a want list ( I never found any record of Grieg ( except the Historic HMV ), Ilona Eibenschütz, Alexander Michalowski and the legendary Pathé of Bernhard Stavenhagen ) please inform me.
