Here’s one of THE rarest albums in the girl-group universe! Who knows what compelled The Tokens to issue this completely-out-of-time LP in the midst of the heavy hard-rock year of 1971/72? They were several months ahead of the nostalgia curve (this album would have worked in 1974, when there was a ‘50s nostalgia craze). Perhaps the issue of this disc was an act of nostalgia for a musical era that was obviously gone. Tax write-off, maybe?

A bevy of great-sounding, powerful performances, in true stereo, fake stereo and plain ol’ mono, this disc has become one of the most-desired artifacts of the entire girl-group era. Here’s your chance to add this holy grail to your collection!

Fun fact: When Ace Records compiled its 2009 anthology "Honey & Wine: Another Gerry Goffin and Carole King Song Collection," the original session tapes for the above song were unavailable. The vinyl transfer they wound up using (digitally sweetened, unlike the sample offered here) was taken from the very copy of this album being offered here, a photograph of whose cover was also used to illustrate the CD booklet, facts acknowledged in the package's credits.

"The Boy I Used to Know" was among a handful of never-before-issued recordings contained on this LP at the time of its release, and is the only one of those that has since seen the digital light of day. Among the "never before, never since" tracks, Andrea's "This Time Tomorrow" (a lovely version of which was released by April Young on Columbia when new) and Beverly's "Shu-Be-Loo" both appear here not only exclusively, but in true stereo. 

Though Ms. Warren never came close to whatever household-name status Ms. Carroll achieved through her higher-charting and more numerous hits, she's arguably the more accomplished professional, with a sweet, pure voice equally at ease in doo-wop, girl-group, and gospel milieus (not to mention an occasional member of Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry's legendary group The Raindrops). She performs, sounding as good as or better than ever, to this day.

Condition:

JACKET: Very light signs of wear on a bright, sharp sleeve. A strong EX++/M-.

VINYL: As you can hear from the sound sample, this is beautiful, clean, superb-sounding vinyl. It’s a sweet, hard-to-beat M- disc!
