Description

THE ANDREW OLDHAM ORCHESTRA
"THE ROLLING STONES SONGBOOK"
DECCA LK 4796, 1965
Original UK Mono 1st pressing with 'flipback' sleeve
Condition - Disc = EX+, Sleeve = EX

Side 1. BLUE TURNS TO GREY / (I Can't Get No) SATISFACTION / YOU BETTER MOVE ON / TIME IS ON MY SIDE / HEART OF STONE   Side 2 . AS TEARS GO BY / PLAY WITH FIRE / THEME FOR A ROLLING STONE / TELL ME (You're Coming back) / CONGRATULATIONS / THE LAST TIME

A great looking and sounding original copy of Andrew Oldham's very rare 1965 Decca LP, featuring instrumental versions of songs written or covered by the Stones and Oldham's own 'Theme For A Rolling Stone'.
Highlights include a moody, filmic 'Play With Fire' and  a fine reworking of 'The Last Time', the subject of an infamous legal action when sampled by indie rock band The Verve for their huge hit 'Bittersweet Symphony'.

The disc is in truly excellent condition with only a few extremely fine surface marks preventing me giving it a near mint grading. Their are no marks or blemishes of any kind and the record and labels (completely clean and bright with only a couple of light spindle marks) look Ex++.  That's also how the LP sounds, with very minimal surface noise on the run-ins and no clicks or pops whatsoever. The front cover is also in excellent condition with only some very light ringwear and few very small creases to the laminate on the spine and top edge. The back cover shows more signs of wear (see scan, though the actual cover is brighter). There is a small '851' written in the top corner and more pronounced grubbiness and ringwear on the right hand corners in particular. There is also a very light brown stain over a small part of the sleevenote and a 2cm crease to the right of the bottom flap. The flipback sleeve is otherwise fully intact with no tears or major creases. I would grade it overall a strong VG++.

This is the best UK copy I've ever seen of this scarce LP in thirty years of collecting and working in record shops. Bid with confidence, it's a keeper!
