Description
Up for auction is a Rare ANDY WARHOL COVER ART LP
RCA VICTOR LM 9021
VLADIMIR HOROWITZ: Piano Music of Mendelssohn And Liszt
US Pressing Cover -- However, the vinyl appears to be a German pressing with outside of label written in German.
The upper right hand of back cover shows a red stamp that is often seen on exported records of this era with a US dollar amount. This was probably purchased by a US Military Serviceman during the early 1950s stationed in Europe.
Featuring Great and RARE Early Illustration Cover Art circa 1951/1952 by ANDY WARHOL!!!
This cover was previously unknown as a Warhol illustration until last year (2012).
We now know that from Richard Forrest, who curated a showing of Warhol's album cover art in 2008 that this is a Warhol cover and is probably his 1st for RCA Victor and is now considered to be his 5th commissioned record cover!
The album was apparently also later reissued with a different cover, adding to the scarcity.
Condition:
Vinyl is in visual VG (Very Good) grade condition.
Cover shows moderate shelf and ring wear. Sleeve also shows some moderate rubbing along corners.
There is a top seam split that measures the full length across from opening. There is a bottom seam split that also runs about the same length across from opening.
Please see photos for more detail.
