There are many terms used to describe gold jewelry from Solid Gold to Gold

Filled, and Gold Plated.  It is important to know the differences between Gold

Filled jewelry and Gold Plated jewelry when making your decision.  Gold Filled

jewelry looks and lasts like solid gold because its outer surface is gold.  Gold

filled jewelry is made from solid gold and filled with other alloys such as

rhodium, brass, or sterling silver.  It has a 100% thicker layer of gold than

Gold Plated jewelry. The production process is more refined, the gold layer is

more closely attached to the base metal, and it retains its color longer. It

does not flake off, rub off or turn colors.  It offers all the same characteristics

as solid gold such as strength, durability and beauty….but at a fraction of the

cost!  It is more valuable and tarnish resistant than gold plated.  Everything 

you can see and touch is pure gold.  As a matter of fact, anyone who can

wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the

jewelry.  However, just like Gold Plated jewelry, Gold Filled jewelry will fade

after extensive wear or improper maintenance.  So, take care to maintain

the jewelry properly to extend  its lifetime.  Caring for Gold Filled jewelry is

easy.  Simply keep it away from chemicals, clean it regularly with mildly sudsy

water, rinse well and pat dry with a non-scratching cloth and polish it gently

with a jewelry polishing cloth.
