Description
This is the 1949 Columbia LP 'A Program of Mexican Music' with orchestra and choir conducted by Carlos Chávez. The oldest record known to have album cover art by ANDY WARHOL.
The music on the album is the registration of a concert held in May 1940 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. THIS AUCTION INCLUDES THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM BOOK OF THE EVENT. The book (32 pages) not only contains interesting notes by Carlos Chávez and Herbert Weinstock on all tracks, but also the beautiful illustration of 'Ancient Mexican musicians' from the Codex Florentinus that inspired Warhol for the drawing he made for the LP cover.
A rare opportunity for Warhol collectors to own both the album and the source for its cover art.
