RADIO COMMERCIALS 7-inch
Movie companies used to send out their commercials on records to theaters, encouraging them to buy time on the local radio stations. The movie would appear for a week or two then it was time for the new feature. Since the movie was unlikely to come back, these records were usually tossed away, and now, many years later, can be really scarce.
This is the commercials for the Andy Warhol double bill “Frankenstein” and “Dracula.” Both of the films were very controversial at the time. ‘Frankenstein’ was originally titled ‘Flesh For Frankenstein’ and was a 3D movie that was rated X because of sex and violence. ‘
The film ‘Dracula’ here was actually ‘Blood For Dracula’ and was released in 1974, and managed an R rating.
There are multiple commercials on this record, these are the spots that helped get people into the theaters to see this new film.
