Condizioni : la copertina presenta una pieghetta moderata nei pressi dell'angolo destro superiore e poche tracce di minimo logorio; grande stato, EX+ / il vinile ha alcuni segni leggeri benchè sia stato suonato in maniera corretta ed altri lasciati invece dal contatto con la busta interna. L'ascolto rivela un pò di rumore di fondo in alcuni brani dal lento andamento e pochi lievi clicchettii; bello stato, EX 

Condition : cover has a moderate crease near the upper right corner and a few traces of minimal wear, EX+ / vinyl has some light marks although correctly played and others left on the other hand by contact with the inner sleeve. Listening reveals a bit of background noise on some tracks from the slow development and a few minor clicks, EX

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : il lavoro di Lavagnino fu impegnativo perchè doveva adattare al gusto occidentale la musica dell'India che non poteva venire esclusa dato che il film era ambientato in quella nazione. Contrariamente a quanto verrebbe naturale pensare, l'abituale e scontata soluzione di combinare insieme sonorità sia Indiane che Europee venne soltanto minimamente utilizzata. Lavagnino optò per una divisione fra i brani riflettenti situazioni d'avventura e di descrizione dei luoghi e quelli invece di carattere sentimentale. Così il flauto e gli strumenti a percussione sono in risalto in molti brani che evocano azione e dinamicità, in alcuni casi affiancati da altri strumenti a fiato per conferire alla musica una certa natura epica. Viceversa i temi sentimentali sono affidati all'esecuzione della sezione d'archi, al pianoforte e ad altri strumenti tradizionalmente occidentali. Questo avviene in "Old England" (a9), "Notturno in Giardino" (b2), "Idillio di Amrita" (b5) e "Diplomatic Valzer" (a2), dove il ballo all'ambasciata viene splendidamente esaltato dal pianoforte e dall'intensità dell'orchestra. Un tocco di magico esotismo nelle tante tracce che vedono primeggiare la musica di gusto Indiano come in "Madampur" (a7), "Asnabar" (b3), "Giostra Bengalese" (a3) o "Le Carovane" (b4). Va comunque ben precisato che ciò che ho definito come musica Indiana è un forte compromesso fra le sue vere caratteristiche e le esigenze commerciali dei produttori che volevano arricchire con un pò di musicalità esotica un film destinato principalmente alle sale cinematografice Europee. Di fronte a questi presupposti Lavagnino riesce a creare una piacevole e ben costruita colonna sonora.  

Notes : the work of Lavagnino was challenging because he had to adapt to Western tastes the music of India which could not be excluded since the film was set in that country. Despite what would be natural to assume, the usual obvious solution to combine both Indian and European sonorities was only minimally used. Lavagnino opted in favour of a division between the tracks reflecting situations of adventure and description of places and the ones from sentimental features. Thus the flute and percussion instruments are in prominence in many tracks evoking action and dynamism, sometimes accompanied by other wind instruments for conferring on the music a certain epic nature. Conversely the sentimental themes are entrusted to the performances of the string section, piano and other instruments from the Western tradition. This happens in "Old England" (a9), "Notturno in Giardino" (b2), "Idillio di Amrita" (b5) and "Diplomatic Waltz" (a2), where the dance to the embassy is beautifully enhanced by the piano and by the intensity of the orchestra. A touch of magical exoticism in several tracks in which excel the music in Indian taste as in  "Madampur" (a7), "Asnabar" (b3), "Giostra Bengalese" (a3) or "Le Carovane" (b4). It should however be noted well that what I have defined as Indian music is a strong compromise among its true characteristics and commercial needs of the producers who wanted to enrich with a bit of exotic musicality a film mainly intended to be played at European cinemas. In the face of these premises Lavagnino succeeds in creating a pleasant and well-balanced soundtrack.
