Alga Marghen present Underground Altena, two visionary long-form works by Anima Sound, the radically freedom-pursuing Paul and Limpe Fuchs duo. 1973 represented a peak for Anima sonic explorations into sculptural sound at the crossing of krautrock, free jazz, and experimental music. Limpe Fuchs studied piano, violin, and percussion in Munich, but all changed in the late 1960s when she met sculptor Paul Fuchs and discovered there was much more space to experiment and discover her own way as in the sculptural environment she had the chance to work directly with materials. Paul first built a horn as a sculpture (the famous Fuchshorn) and started experimenting with its sounds. Then he built a pedal kettledrum adding things to it like woodblocks and welded a steel ring to the hi-hat stand that was strung up with several strings which Limpe played with her toes, or using a saw blade and a shovel. Even if in the beginning Paul and Limpe were more interested in experimental film, there were other communities like Amon Düül and Tangerine Dream and Anima started touring with them as well as with Popol Vuh or Xhol and very quickly became well known within this krautrock scene. After they were engaged in the Underground Explosion Tour 1969 and had made the Tractor Tour at 19 km/h between Munich and Rotterdam in 1971, came Friedrich Gulda who joined them in the early '70s. He was very fond of the duo and he especially liked Limpe singing and their way of just improvising. He was a famous arranger, but wanted to play in an improvising group. Later on, Anima was included in the infamous "Nurse With Wound List" and came the connection to Steven Stapleton who included them in the An Afflicted Man Musica Box anthology together with Jac Berrocal, AMM, Operating Theatre. Even if Anima was in fact part of the krautrock scene, they had a very distinct sound which was a result of the confluence of Paul's "visionary" sculptural world and Limpe's aural universe. Playing on self-built instruments also had a major role in building their specific sound which became more and more unique in the early 1970s as the Fuchhorn, the Fuchzither, the Fuchsbass and other sound sculptures were created. Heavily guided by Limpe's unique approach to percussion playing and vocals, with Paul delivering a striking arsenal of tonal interventions on his invented instruments, "Underground" and "Altena" plays like the outer reaches of free jazz dropped in an alien landscape. Howling and clattering, entirely free and spontaneous, while never losing the sense of deep consciousness, purpose and control.
'The duo of Paul and Limpe Fuchs (aka Anima or Anima Sound) were amongst the experimental to emerge out of the late-60s and become involved in the Munich underground rock scene. Elitists, and pure avant-gardists at heart, they worked with all manner of conventional and home-made instruments, performing wild and demanding music. Somehow they were adopted by the experimental rock label Ohr, despite their music being barely rock at all! STURMISCHER HIMMEL, recorded at a "thousand year old cottage on a windy hill" with their children, is amongst the oddest of albums. Bizarre creative music it certainly is, but Krautrock it is certainly not! Soon the became friends of the Austrian jazz avant-gardist Friedrich Gulda, and were invited to perform at his "Ossiach" festival. With Friedrich Gulda guesting on ANIMA a long association began with them touring together and being featured on many of each others albums. Some of their later LP's run very close to free-jazz or the serious avant-garde. Also, Limpe Fuchs has recently been working as a soloist.' - The Crack In The Cosmic Egg

HOW WE SHIP RECORDS (AND OTHER ITEMS) TO YOU:
With the exception of a few odd-sized items, ALL LPs are packaged for shipment and sent to you in PROFESSIONAL QUALITY, SUPERIOR RECTANGULAR SHAPED, CORNER-PROTECTING CORRUGATED CARDBOARD RECORD MAILERS WITH FILLER PADS. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!
We are record collectors here, too, and we pledge to package your records (or any other item) in a way in which we would like to have records/other items packaged, sent to us and received by us as well.
When packaging up records that are non-factory sealed items (as is standard for many import releases) or are open "used" items for shipment, we remove the LP and inner-sleeve from the album cover and place them on the outside of the cover to protect the cover from being subjected to any potential seam-splitting during transit.
When packaging up factory sealed records for shipment, we leave the item sealed, intact, as is. HOWEVER. If a customer REQUESTS that we unseal a factory sealed record to send with the LP and inner sleeve on the outside of the cover (to protect the cover from any potential seam-splitting during transit) we will do so. Please be sure to make this request of unsealing your record for shipment if that is your packaging preference.
When packaging up non-factory sealed items (or factory sealed items that have been unsealed at the buyer's request) that have custom company or other manner of printed inner-sleeves, we remove the record from those printed inner sleeves (returning the printed inner sleeves back into the album cover) and place them inside brand new, generic white paper inner sleeves, which are then placed on the outside of the album cover to protect both the album cover AND the original printed inner sleeves from being subjected to any potential seam splitting during transit. We do this for all new AND used items that are in our stock.
All LPs, be they new or used, are sheathed inside of new, protective plastic outer sleeves (with the exceptions of space or weight limitations that may occur with packaging your items - such exceptions will take place when they allow for a lower cost of shipping charged for your total order.)
We go the extra mile to protect and preserve your items, folks!
With but a few exceptions (odd size combined orders or other package configurations and considerations...)
All 12" records are sent to you packaged in quality 15" x 1" x 13" rectangular shaped corrugated cardboard LP mailers.
All 10" records are sent to you packaged in quality 13" x 1" x 13" square shaped corrugated cardboard LP mailers.
All 7" records are sent to you packaged in quality 8" x 1" x 8" square shaped corrugated cardboard 7" record mailers.
