Killer, Kashmere Stage Band cum Gospel influenced vocal funk / jazz dance version of the Eugene McDaniels / Les McCann standard, COMPARED TO WHAT. Amazing lead vocals by Duke Ellington session singer, Anita Moore, over a seriously funky groove by the Texas Southern University Jazz Ensemble. Delirious latin congas / stop-start beats and breaks with speaker-shaking horn stabs / screaming flute solo / fender rhodes / tambourine / basslines etc. Great for DJs. Comped by Kon & Amir for their Off The Track Volume One : The Bronx selection for BBE label. The DIDN'T WE side is also superb and sounds like a missing theme from the beautiful Sarah Vaughan - Let It Live / Mystery Of Man session. Desirable private press jazz item with crossover appeal. Very rare 45!!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is closer to shiny M- condition overall with a few hairlines from sleeve removal. Some light surface noises. A few soft pops / ticks to "Didn't We" side. Dead wax run in grooves are very short before the music starts but all copies seem to be like this. Record housed in plain, white card sleeve. Very rare 45!!!
