Up for auction is an original copy of the 1952 Anita O'Day LP "Sings Jazz" on Norgran Records (MG N-1049). This is an original Mono, Deep Groove pressing. Cover art by David Stone Martin. Since everyone has their own opinion of what the typical Goldmine Standards of record grading are, I will instead describe the condition of this album to the best of my ability gathered from over 30 years of record collecting. The Cover Condition: The front cover is still glossy and shows no losses, tears or chips. Image is bright. Only the tiniest hint of any ring wear above Anita's name (see photo)--practically not worth mentioning. The back cover is still mostly bone white, with only a hint of minor age discoloration. A couple of very light smudges in the text. A faint line toward the bottom (see photo). The seams are completely intact and strong, no splits or cracking. Some very minor abrasions on the corners near the opening. The spine with the title printing shows some darkening with age, but no losses. Overall, a very clean cover. Some say jazz collecting is about collecting covers--and this one is better than most that I've seen of this cover. The Record Condition: It still retains much of its original sheen. There are a few light paper scuffs and light marks on the vinyl, but nothing that raises any red flags. The spindle hole shows a couple of marks around it from previous use, but not heavy marking. I wouldn't expect this record to play perfectly quietly--for that you should buy a modern sealed copy, if such exists. This record has probably been played on 1950s equipment (no by me), so you can expect minor background noise, but no huge pops or skipping. The vinyl looks well taken care of considering its age. The deep groove mono pressing will sounds rich and full if played on the proper equipment. Overall, a nice copy of a scarce record. Free shipping with tracking to customers in the U.S.A.
